Family Christmas Card Picture
I have been faithfully and joyfully committed to the gift of motherhood for the past 23 years. A little over four years ago, as my oldest graduated from high school and eventually headed off to college, I began to think about our future without children… almost. If you have read my post about my daughter, Olivia, then you know we will never truly be empty nesters which is part of the reason that I have picked up where I left off after finishing college.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design at Mississippi State University in 1987, my interests were mainly in furniture refinishing and faux finishing. Back then you could not find faux products, such as glaze at your local hardware store and there were no “big box” stores, at that time, either.
Okay, so I know that I am seriously dating myself! 😉
These type of products had to be ordered from mail order catalogs specializing in faux finish products as there was also, no internet. Because I lived in Atlanta for the first three years after college there were some awesome art supply stores for architects, artists and designers where I could find faux products and was able to purchase them.
Fast forward to sometime around 2003 and not only was I able to find glazes and other faux products, which are now available at the big box stores, they could also be purchased online.
By 2010 when I began considering, once again, to work professionally as an interior designer, I was amazed to discover all of the available products on the market, especially as I researched online.
I spent hours, weeks, months, researching, purchasing, trying many products, one of which included “Chalk Paint”, a specialty home decor paint and milk paint. I also received additional training through faux finish classes beginning in 2011. As more and more products began to come available in the last four years, I continued trying paints, glazes, acrylic sealers, waxes, gilding products, foiling products, embossing products, etc. until I landed on products that WORKED and complimented each other very well.
And now, I retail these products in my vintage retail shop, God is good!
Now mind you, this is also after choosing a product and retailing it, for a brief time, as well as, using it in classes and on my furniture finishing projects until several issues began to arise that ultimately led me to discontinue selling it and to begin again trying several other similar products until I landed on products that I could stand behind. If I can’t stand behind a product then I can’t and I want retail it to my customers in our shop, Vintage Market & Paint Studio!!
As the first retailer in Huntsville to carry milk paint, specialty home decor paints, sealers and faux products, it has been quite a journey, but I can assure you that the products I retail in our shop are products that I truly believe in and stand behind. This is with over 27 years of experience in the field.
You may find similar and even the same products at other locations and most of these retailers began using these products after purchasing them from my shop. This is not to boast, but to give you peace of mind that the products that you purchase from my shop are a superior product and to also give you confidence in using these products, as well as, the knowledge to assist you, which you can rely on.
I am able to offer my years of experience, as well as the time and money spent researching, testing and experimenting with products. My furniture painting classes are designed to teach you how to correctly use the products that you purchase at my shop, in order for you to properly achieve the expected results with all of your furniture painting and painting projects.
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others…” 1 Peter 4:10
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
As a friend of mine recently put it, “I love that I’m able to use my gifts and talents He gave me and I get to call it work!!!” Well, not only do I love that I am able to do this, but I find it a privilege and am extremely grateful!
