A 20,000 sq ft vintage train station?… Packed with antiques?… Custom built farm tables?…Over 600 antique doors?!?!?
You had me at VINTAGE!
A few weeks ago my oldest daughter, Victoria, and I
explored — well more like ran around drooling — The Vintage Station! It is a historic cargo train station located in Bessemer, Alabama built in 1904 that has been converted into an antiquers paradise complete with on site hand crafted wood workings & a potbelly pig!
It’s not often that I get to venture outside of Huntsville to do some quality “junking”, but the perfect opportunity presented itself when we moved my second daughter to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama this fall!
Victoria read about The Vintage Station on Facebook and our little picker hearts SOARED with excitement & anticipation of what awaited us at this Alabama vintage gem!
We arrived at the train station, and if there is such thing as a vintage heaven, this was it! We jumped out of our car & ran straight for the rows of vintage gliders!
As we perused the outside of the train station, the train that still runs alongside the building came rushing by blowing its horn.. Our ears rang but our hearts sang! This place is just too cool!
We received a warm welcome from everyone who works there! They were all so friendly and eager to tell us all about the place & it is clear that the only thing they love more than antiques is Jesus! 🙂
We learned that they not only collect & sale unique antique furniture & relics, but they also specialize in taking apart and salvaging materials from old homes in the Southeast! They salvage everything from the doors, windows, wood, etc! They use all the pieces they salvage to build custom farm tables, barn doors, benches, etc. at their onsite wood working shop!
Whether we’re refinishing beautiful antique furniture or building something classic out of gorgeous turn of the century materials, our passion is to bring a little bit of history into your home!!! We specialize in building stunning barn doors and farm tables but we also build benches, cabinetry, bookcases and everyone’s favorite: swinging day beds!!! You dream it, we build it. Anything you want us to build, our expert craftsmen can make it happen for you!!! If you want authentic, custom, handmade furniture you need to ditch the consumer clutter and come on down to The Vintage Station!
Everything inside is old, dirty & piled in no particular order! JUST the way we like it!
When you have to dig & your hands are getting dirty, you know you’ve found a good spot!
There were tons of interesting little items, beautiful frames, hundreds of old door knobs & other hardware, old windows, beautiful old doors on doors on doors, and so much more you just have to go see it for yourself!
The back half of the store is the wood shop where all the magic happens! They invite you to walk right through & watch as they work on custom items for clients!
The guys there are SO talented!
Thank you Vintage Station for a truly wonderful visit to this treasure of a place we have right here in Alabama!
We left with a vintage wood bowling pin, a ceramic Uncle Sam rain chime & a 1920s Alfred Smith Toby Jug. Alfred Smith was Herbert Hoovers opponent in the 1928 presidential election & these mugs were made during the election year. Now we are on the hunt for the Hoover jug to have a complete pair! 😉
