My name is Tina. Welcome to the Vintage Market Paint Studio web page!!
Here is a little bit about myself and what I do…
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design which I obtained from Mississippi State University in 1987. Over the years I have worked in the decorating and design field while living in Mississippi, Atlanta, Georgia, Montana, St. Croix, USVI, Tennessee, and Alabama, giving me experience in varied settings and environments.
I’ve enjoyed the variety and beauty that each place had to offer as inspiration for my creativity and design. Growing up in the south, I am inspired by the grand southern beauty of antebellum homes and a love for magnolia’s, crepe myrtles, day lilies and pines. From my time living in Montana, I have gained an appreciation for rustic and rugged ranch style decor and designs. During my brief time living on a tropical island, the colorful cottage homes and of course, the ocean and beaches’ blue skies, palm trees, sea shells, and white sand freshness was wonderful inspiration for Seaside style decorating.
One of my favorite design styles is old Hollywood glam, but I like to take it and make it a little rough around the edges with distressed pieces and some industrial creations thrown in the mix. My design dictum is “imperfect IS perfect”. I enjoy the juxtaposition of opulence and sparkle combined with wrought iron and rusty. It’s like wearing your favorite pearls with a white t-shirt and torn jeans. There is no greater thrill than creating this juxtaposition from vintage pieces I’ve collected and finding a unique way to recreate them into something spectacular.
I enjoy discovering those unusual finds when going to auctions, estate sales, flea markets yard sales, thrift stores, peoples’ old barns, attics and sheds, and yes, on occasion I actually come across some amazing finds lying on the curb, which I affectionately call my “curbside collections.”
I also have a “thing” for architectural fragments and old relics. They’re great for repurposing. Items are chosen for their unique appeal, which basically means that I liked it and it was interesting to me or that I appreciate its intrinsic value.
Refurbishing old furniture with a newly painted finish can turn trash into treasure. The home decor furniture paints that I carry are specifically designed to easily paint over previous finishes with little to no prep work. With over 30 years experience painting and refinishing furniture, I can help guide you in learning to use the different paints that I carry to create a beautifully finished piece.
We offer classes in our paint studio on a regular basis… Be sure to check out our PAINT CLASSES page!!!
